What is the Leadership Training Conference?

The AACF Leadership Training Conference (LTC) is an annual conference designed to equip new AACF campus leadership teams for the upcoming year of ministry. The goal of LTC is three-fold:

  • to build and strengthen each leaders personal relationship with God,
  • to provide equipping and training of each leader for effective ministry and
  • to network and establish valuable ministry and relationships while learning about developing community through hands-on experience.

Through Christ-centered messages, workshops, worship, prayer and fellowship activities, leaders are developed and challenged to the task at hand and ultimately a lifetime of leadership.

LTC 2012 – Patterns: Replicating the Faith and Love Found in Jesus Christ

What you heard from me, keep as the pattern of sound teaching, with faith and love in Christ Jesus.

2 Timothy 1:13

When we hear the phrase The Leader as a Disciple, it almost sounds almost contradictory. A leader is someone who is out in front while the disciple is someone who follows behind. But it makes complete sense when we consider that as a Christian, we are called both to be a disciple and a discipler. The Apostle Paul acted as a discipler in his relationship with Timothy. But he was also discipled by Ananias and later by Barnabas. When you are thrust into a position of leadership, it does not mean that you have learned everything and have become the consummate guru among your peers. With true humility, you need to submit to being discipled, but at the same time, recognize your call to disciple others around you. It seems that neither one of these roles is easy for Christians to assume today. Many of us do not feel qualified to disciple someone else and then we have difficulty finding someone who we would like to have disciple us. As you prepare to come to LTC this year, let's come with a mindset that God is going to show us something in his truth about overcoming both of these barriers. This will lead us to producing a biblical pattern of discipleship."

What to expect at LTC:

Discipleship Simulation

We may not always be aware of it, but we participate in discipleship-like activity all the time. In our simulation exercise this year, we will take some of those things that we do in everyday life and see how it can be transferred and transformed into our role as a discipler.

MOI (Moments of Impact) times

Spend quality time with God in sharing with other students from other campuses getting to know them and seeing how Jesus has impacted their lives. You can also encourage them by sharing your story and blessing them with what Jesus has been doing to grow you as his disciple.

Campus Times

A core group or leadership team will work best when they know each other better on a personal level. That's why we always give time at LTC for students to interact with others from their campus. This will include some serious discussions on what needs to be done in your AACF for the year to come or times of reflection on how God is working in your life or some “fun” teambuilding activities just so you can laugh with each other.

Prayer

For those of you who would like to start the day a little earlier, the times of corporate daily morning prayer will demonstrate for you various ways that you can call believers together for powerful prayer ministry. It will also help you to be spiritually focused throughout LTC to receive what the Holy Spirit wants to impart to you. Not to be confused with EQT (Extended Quiet Time) on Monday morning. Monday morning at LTC begins with a personal time for extended prayer and reflection. The beautiful grounds of The Oaks provide an environment that prepares everyone for awesome times with God.

Speaker

Thomas Chen

[Thomas Chen & Family]

Thomas currently serves as a pastor at Breakaway Christian Fellowship, a recent church plant in Cupertino, CA for 2nd generation Asian Americans. He is a graduate of UCLA and Talbot School of Theology. While at Talbot, he met his wife Esther at an AACF meeting at Biola University. Both were involved with AACF during college; Esther served AACF at both Biola and SJSU during grad school. While at UCLA, Thomas was blessed to be able to start a drama ministry (Salt and Light known as SnL) and served on core. They are now blessed with 2 children (CJ – 4 and Corinne – 1½).

Workshops

This year LTC will feature training and equipping via two forms of workshops, 1) the workshop series and 2) workshop electives. The workshop series (T-Th) is a 4-part workshop designed to equip and train leaders for specific areas of ministry. When registering, please select one of the following workshop series.
Core Leadership
As God calls specific leaders for specific tasks, those who respond to the call of Core Coordinator seem to take on this task in fear instead of a blessing or gift. Learn how to be effective in handling the many facets of being a Core Coordinator.
Preparing a Bible Study
Are you ready to lead a Bible study? This workshop will take you from studying a passage of scripture to preparing a lesson.
Small groups
How do I lead them? Where do I start? What are my responsibilities? Come and find out!
Koinonia/Body Life
God calls us to live in community with our brothers and sister in Christ, yet there are different stages and components that are needed for spiritual and physical growth. Come and explore what it takes to be builders of the Body of Christ.
Evangelism
This track will focus on “Evangelism: CPR” for cultivating, planting and reaping GodÂ’s harvest as AACF lives out its mission statement to reach into the university and collegiate community with the life-changing message of Jesus Christ.
Discipleship
What is discipleship, how do you define it? In this workshop series we will define a discipleship relationship, how to set it up, and allow you an opportunity to connect with discipleship ministries from other campuses. All who are interested in finding out about what discipleship is or setting up a ministry- are welcomed to attend.
Prayer
This track will is for prayer ministry coordinators.
Worship
One of the things AACF does well is to encourage others to worship God on our campuses. This workshop will help to provide and encourage worship coordinators in AACF as they lead, they can lead others to worship God in AACF.

Workshop Electives (Th) are additional workshops designed for additional ministry training or personal interest.

Registration for the workshop electives will occur at the beginning of the week of LTC (Sunday) on a first-come first- serve basis, with a cap of 25 participants in each elective.
