What is the Leadership Training Conference?

The AACF Leadership Training Conference (LTC) is an annual conference designed to equip new AACF campus leadership teams for the upcoming year of ministry. The goal of LTC is three-fold:

  • to build and strengthen each leaders personal relationship with God,
  • to provide equipping and training of each leader for effective ministry and
  • to network and establish valuable ministry and relationships while learning about developing community through hands-on experience.

Through Christ-centered messages, workshops, worship, prayer and fellowship activities, leaders are developed and challenged to the task at hand and ultimately a lifetime of leadership.

LTC 2010 – We Can Move Mountains: The Initiator

He replied, "Because you have so little faith. I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you."

Matthew 17:20

What to expect at LTC:

NEW at LTC 2010: Bento Box

Our Morning Plenary Sessions will take on a different look. As many students have expressed a desire to get to know our AACF campus ministry staff and speakers on a more intimate level at LTC, 2010 introduces a new development, the Bento Box morning session. Upon arrival, for Tuesday and Thursday morning, students will sign-up for one session each day and choose from three options; no matter the choice, each student will receive similar teaching, but in a different form. The options are:

  1. Bible exposition. For those who prefer the traditional method of hearing a speaker examining and declaring the word of God, this would be their first choice. Held in Hayford Hall, and hear what God has to say through one of our AACF campus ministry staffers.
  2. Small group Bible study. For those who sign-up for this choice, groups will be created to explore the passage of the day. Each study will be led by an AACF campus minister staffer and participants will be afforded the opportunity to process the passage together.
  3. Initiator Story. This is for students who want to spend time getting to know AACF campus ministry staffers on a more personal level, as they will share from the passage of the day and relate it with their own spiritual journey. After sharing their story, they will welcome questions and feedback.

Other aspects of LTC:

Extended Time of Prayer
Monday morning at LTC begins with a personal time for extended prayer and reflection. The beautiful grounds of The Oaks provide an environment that prepares everyone for awesome times with God.
Work Project
As LTC is a work in process, input from former student leaders and the AACF campus ministry staffers raised a need to demonstrate how to lead and coordinate work projects. This project also provides an opportunity to serve to The Oaks, our hosts. Projects have included trail and site maintenance, landscaping, and the infamous one of 2009, stairs near the Rosey Grier Dining Hall. Participants should be prepared by bringing clothing that can get dirty and willing hearts to learn and serve on Wednesday.

Speakers

Jason Ashimoto

[Jason Ashimoto]

Jason is no stranger to AACF and LTC. While attending college, he participated and served in many capacities during his tenure at AACF UCLA. He attended LTC in 1998, and currently serves as an associate pastor at Evergreen Baptist Church of Los Angeles (EBCLA), in Rosemead, CA, overseeing the youth and young adult ministries. After his calling into ministry he studied and worked to receive his M.Div. from Fuller Theological Seminary. Upon graduation, he began serving at EBCLA as the High School Youth Director in 2008. We are grateful God has brought Jason full-circle to become our 2010 Evening speaker, and look forward to what will be shared thru God’s word and encouragement for all who will attend.

Workshops

This year LTC will feature training and equipping via two forms of workshops, 1) the workshop series and 2) workshop electives. The workshop series (T-W) is a 3-part workshop designed to equip and train leaders for specific areas of ministry. When registering, please select one of the following workshop series.
Worship Workshop – Please note at LTC 2010, there will be no worship workshop offered.
In order to include a greater number of worship leaders in the training, AACF will offer regional worship leaders trainings in Fall 2010.
Core Leadership
As God calls specific leaders for specific tasks, those who respond to the call of Core Coordinator seem to take on this task in fear instead of a blessing or gift. Learn how to be effective in handling the many facets of being a Core Coordinator.
Preparing a Bible Study
Are you ready to lead a Bible study? This workshop will take you from studying a passage of scripture to preparing a lesson.
Small groups
How do I lead them? Where do I start? What are my responsibilities? Come and find out!
Koinonia/Body Life
God calls us to live in community with our brothers and sister in Christ, yet there are different stages and components that are needed for spiritual and physical growth. Come and explore what it takes to be builders of the Body of Christ.
Evangelism
This track will focus on “Evangelism: CPR” for cultivating, planting and reaping God’s harvest as AACF lives out its mission statement to reach into the university and collegiate community with the life-changing message of Jesus Christ.
Discipleship
What is discipleship, how do you define it? In this workshop series we will define a discipleship relationship, how to set it up, and allow you an opportunity to connect with discipleship ministries from other campuses. All who are interested in finding out about what discipleship is or setting up a ministry- are welcomed to attend.

Workshop Electives (Th) are additional workshops designed for additional ministry training or personal interest.

Registration for the workshop electives will occur at the beginning of the week of LTC (Sunday) on a first-come first- serve basis, with a cap of 25 participants in each elective.
